Installing the driver for your digital camera on your Windows 7 computer is essential for transferring photos or videos of business events from the camera to your computer. Without the proper driver installed, Windows will not detect your device correctly. You can install a digital camera driver from the Device Manager. Choose one of the two options available. Click 'Search automatically for updated driver software' if you want Windows to search for a driver on the web or, alternatively, select 'Browse my computer for driver software' to manually search for a driver on your computer.

Press 'Browse' and select the folder where the digital camera driver is located if you chose to search for the driver on your computer rather than the web. The driver is usually in the form of a file with an '.inf' extension. You do not need to select the specific driver file, however. If you choose the folder you want Windows to search in, the operating system will automatically load the driver from the appropriate '.inf' file from the folder.

Press 'Next' and wait for Windows to load and install your digital camera driver. The operating system will display messages when the driver is located and installed.
Tip
- If Windows is unable to load drivers from the web and if you cannot locate the driver on your computer, you can download the software from the official website of your camera manufacturer. If the driver comes as an '.exe' file simply install the program provided. Alternatively, you can follow the steps above if your manufacturer provides an '.inf' file.

To transfer digital camera photos to your computer, you need to install the camera’s driver on your computer. You can install a driver fairly easily on a Windows computer, and that driver lets you access your digital camera photos on your computer. To install the driver:
1Choose Start→Control Panel→Printers and Other Hardware→Scanners and Cameras→Add an Imaging Device.
The Scanner and Camera Installation Wizard opens with the Welcome screen, as shown in this figure.
